Yes, I think progressivism is defined primarily by how we gather and work together, not by what we declare. (Is this feminine over masculine? Is it sexist to dichotomize them like that?) I see Liberalism as very masculine: doctrine of rational individual existence over the experience of others.

The first lecture of the conference was very masculine. An extremely rational talk about and rational approach to a male figure: a lecture by a man on the historical Jesus. There was little room for imagination in that talk. I experienced creativity much more in the times of worship. Without the creative spirit, we are washed up Liberals. But with the spark, with nuance and space to consider and reach out and reimagine, we can be bold progressives, stepping into the future. Not to belabor the point from the Womaen's Caucus blog, but for those who want to know what the heck I'm talking about can read more here http://blog.travispoling.com/2008/11/who-are-progressives.html
